Why L.I.N.D.A.?

“Linda” was a popular song written by Jack Lawrence in 1942, and published in 1946.

As the story goes, Jack Wallace, had a close friend named Eastman, who was an attorney. Jack was a very special friend and visited Eastman’s family often. He found pleasure watching the Eastman’s children grow up.

One day Eastman asked Jack if he would do him a favor and write a song for his 5-year-old daughter, Linda. He said that his wife and son, along with his daughter Laura all had name songs, but his daughter Linda felt left out as she did not have a name song.

So Jack wrote the song Linda in 1942, while in the military, but had trouble getting it published, as the publishers loved the song, but didn’t like the name “Linda” as they said it was not a popular name. So the Linda song was not published until a few years later in 1946, and became an instant hit sung by Buddie Clark. From it, the name Linda became a very popular name. In 1947 through 1952 it was the most popular name. And it was this song that inspired my mom to name me “Linda.”

And do you know who this Linda became when she grew up, to whom the song was written for? None other than Linda Eastman (McCartney), wife of the Beatle Paul McCartney.

Now you know the story behind the Linda song, and why I ask only Linda’s who spell their name L.I.N.D.A may join our Linda Lunch.

That is why our Lindas need to have the spelling of Linda – not Belinda, Melinda or Lynda etc.  So, if you are a Linda and desire to be with some wonderful Lindas or want to know more about this group, please use the contact form.
